About the Founder

Patrick William Smith

Founder & President, ONE for ALL Arts Education Fund

Patrick William Smith explores a simple but profound question:

What happens when people are given the opportunity to discover who they truly are?

For more than five decades, that question has guided Patrick’s work as an educator, musician, mentor, martial artist, nonprofit leader, and advocate for arts education. Honored by Yale University School of Music, the Greater New Haven arts community, and the GRAMMY organization, Patrick views these recognitions not as destinations, but as milestones in a lifelong commitment to expanding opportunities for future creators across Music, Dance, Theater, Creative Writing, and the Visual Arts.

At the center of that work is a deeply held belief: the arts are among humanity’s most powerful tools for self-discovery, connection, healing, creativity, and the realization of one’s purpose.

Throughout his career, Patrick witnesses firsthand the transformative impact of the arts. He sees struggling students discover confidence, disconnected young people find belonging, and talented artists uncover deeper meaning in their lives. He sees how access to these opportunities is often determined not by talent, passion, or potential, but by circumstance.

That reality became the catalyst for creating ONE for ALL Arts Education Fund.

Founded on the belief that every person deserves access to meaningful arts experiences, ONE For ALL supports educators who inspire creative growth and students whose lives are shaped by it. The organization exists to strengthen arts education, expand access, and build partnerships that connect schools, artists, cultural organizations, and communities.

The name ONE for ALL reflects Patrick’s vision. “ONE” represents our shared humanity. “For ALL” reflects the belief that the transformative power of the arts should never be reserved for a select few. Regardless of age, background, ability, culture, identity, or circumstance, every person deserves the opportunity to create, express, imagine, and flourish.

This philosophy shapes Patrick’s life’s work. As an educator in New Haven, a collaborator with the GRAMMY Museum, a member of The Recording Academy, and the creator of initiatives such as The Creators’ Classroom – Student Spark, he focuses on building bridges between education and the professional arts world while creating opportunities for students who may never have imagined a place for themselves within it.

Patrick believes the ultimate purpose of arts education extends far beyond artistic achievement. While some students may become professional musicians, actors, dancers, writers, or visual artists, the deeper value of the arts lies in helping individuals develop creativity, discipline, empathy, resilience, communication, self-awareness, and purpose.

In Patrick’s view, the goal is not simply to teach the arts.

The goal is to help people discover themselves through the arts.

That belief remains the driving force behind ONE FOR ALL.

At its best, arts education is about developing more creative, confident, compassionate, and connected human beings.

The Destination Is YOU.
